Q. Do Speirs & Jeffrey provide Probate / Inheritance Tax Valuations of Estates?

A. Yes we do. We charge on a sliding scale based on the value of the investments and we may rebate all or part of these fees if the sales of the investments are subsequently carried out through Speirs & Jeffrey.

Q. Can Speirs & Jeffrey deal for the Executors of an Estate?

A. Yes, we regularly act for executors of estates. In the main we are engaged and instructed by an intermediary (e.g. a solicitor administering an estate). We can act on the estate's behalf whether the shares are held in paper certificates or in an electronic nominee. Certificate of Confirmation of the appointment of the executors to act (or Grant of Probate in England) must be exhibited before transactions can be undertaken.

Q. What other services do Speirs & Jeffrey offer relating to the investments within Estates?

A. We can also help administer the process of having the death noted with the registrar and assist with obtaining replacement share certificates if the originals have been lost. Please contact us for further details and note there is a charge involved for this service.
