Glasgow is currently hosting a range of European Championships, and the city centre has already enjoyed the Women’s Cycle Road Race. The route for this race passed straight in front of Speirs & Jeffrey’s office. The Championships encompass George Square, the Merchants City, the West End and Glasgow Green, with a wide range of sporting and cultural events spread across the city. Please come and enjoy Glasgow and all of this sport, music and fun!
On Wednesday the European Championships Cycle Time Trial is taking place. The Women’s event is during the morning, starting from 9am. The Men’s event follows, starting at 1pm. If any clients have meetings at the office during these championships - and especially on Wednesday - please take care to consider your transport choices. A wide number of city centre roads will be closed on Wednesday.
For interest, here are the time trial routes: Glasgow 2018 cycle routes
Both time trials start at the Glasgow Riverside Museum. They then go up Byres Road and turn left onto Great Western Road. They traverse to Maryhill Road, before moving north via Canniesburn Toll to Hillfoot Station in Bearsden, and on to Milngavie. The Women’s event then turns right (East along Auchenhowie Road and Balmore Road to Torrance), while the Men’s event continues north out to Strathblane before then turning East to Campsie Glen and Lennoxtown and then round south to Torrance.
After Torrance, both events then return south through Bishopsbriggs. Back in the City, they travel west along Cathedral Street to North Hanover Street before dropping down to George Square, turning left (past S&J), right (past the City Chambers), down South Frederick Street, left along Ingram Street, right down the High Street and via London Road to the finish on Glasgow Green.
